Gold, silver and platinum value calculator
Convert weight and purity, then add a transparent adjustment, making charge and possible GST.
Reference estimate ready — not a retail or buyback quote.
Fine grams = gross grams × fineness/1,000. Value = fine grams × pure-metal reference. A 999 stamp alone does not establish GST exemption.
All investments carry risk, including loss of the full amount involved, and may not suit everyone. Historical metal prices do not indicate future performance. This page provides arithmetic and factual context, not a recommendation.
A useful way through this page
- Record metal, gross weight and fineness from the item.
- Use the dated reference to isolate pure-metal value.
- Add making charges, spread and the correct GST treatment separately.

There is no single “gold price”
An international benchmark, a monthly commodity average, a Singapore dealer’s sell price, its buyback price and a jewellery ticket describe different things. This page starts with an open, dated reference and exposes each later adjustment.
| Metal | Aug 2026 monthly average | Illustrative SGD/oz | Pure SGD/g |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold | US$4,411.00/oz | S$5,592.09 | S$179.79 |
| Silver | US$65.40/oz | S$82.91 | S$2.67 |
| Platinum | US$1,780.00/oz | S$2,256.61 | S$72.55 |
The table combines an August World Bank average with the 3 September ECB USD/SGD reference. It is transparent historical context, not a same-minute Singapore quote.
999, 916 and karat gold are not interchangeable
Fineness records pure gold in parts per thousand. Gold marked 999 is 99.9% gold by mass; 916 is 91.6%. Karat divides purity into 24 parts, so 18K is 75%.
| Purity | Pure-gold fraction | Reference value per gross gram |
|---|---|---|
| 999 | 0.999 | S$179.61 |
| 995 | 0.995 | S$178.89 |
| 916 | 0.916 | S$164.69 |
| 22K | 0.916667 | S$164.81 |
| 18K | 0.750 | S$134.84 |
| 14K | 0.583333 | S$104.88 |
A 10g piece marked 916 contains 9.16g fine gold, worth about S$1,646.87 at this reference. Retail can add design, labour, wastage, brand and tax. A later resale calculation can deduct testing, refining and margin. Stones and non-gold parts are not gold weight.
A troy ounce is not an ordinary ounce
One troy ounce equals 31.1034768 grams. The calculator converts gross weight to grams, applies purity and only then multiplies by the pure-metal reference. That avoids valuing alloy as pure gold.
How to read a hypothetical retail gap
A commercial table is normally written from the seller’s perspective. One column can show what a customer pays and another what the customer receives, subject to product conditions. Enter two separately obtained observations above to express their gap as a percentage of the midpoint.
The worksheet does not fetch, endorse or rank any dealer. Physical bars, coins, jewellery and account-based metal can have different conditions and cannot be treated as interchangeable.
When is precious metal exempt from GST?
Singapore exempts qualifying Investment Precious Metals, but purity is only one test. For bars, ingots and wafers, IRAS specifies minimum purity of 99.5% for gold, 99.9% for silver and 99% for platinum. A product must also be capable of international bullion-market trading, carry an accepted quality mark and not be decorative or collectible. Coins face additional prescribed criteria.
Jewellery, scrap, decorative bars and products from non-qualifying refiners can be non-IPM, whose local supply by a GST-registered business is generally taxable at 9%. The tool defaults to “unsure” and shows both totals.
The calculator checks only the IRAS minimum purity — gold 99.5%, silver 99.9%, platinum 99%. Form, accepted quality mark or endorsement, international bullion-market capability and non-decorative character must still be established for the exact product; coins have additional prescribed tests.

Annual, quarterly and monthly averages cover different periods and are not equivalent percentage changes. SGD-denominated historical values would also move with USD/SGD.
Data methodology and licensing
World Bank Pink Sheet data supplies the open monthly and historical reference. USD per troy ounce is multiplied by the dated SGD/USD rate and divided by 31.1034768. Full precision is retained until display.
